Mews House Re-design, Extension & Refurbishment

A pretty two bedroomed mews cottage overlooking water meadows in a quiet suburban area.

Subject to a previous poorly considered unsympathetic extension and internal alterations, the property required re-thinking to maximise its potential.

About: Internal Re-Design & Upgrade

Location: Wiltshire

Project type: Private Residential

Status: Complete

‘Modern open plan kitchen, dining, living. A space for entertaining’.

Relocation of the staircase and rear entrance door allowed the internal spaces to be re-arranged providing a much improved kitchen, two double bedrooms with built in storage and a generous family bathroom.

Concealed pocket doors slide into the new walling allowing a flexible layout. The resolved first floor landing enhances the sense of space and provides improved circulation within the building.

‘The existing layout was inefficient, lacked storage and was awkward to furnish’.

With careful consideration, this low budget project has significantly enhanced the quality of the internal spaces and overall appeal of the building, with the refurbishment cost recuperated in capital value increase.

Water colour painting of a traditional mews house with brick walls, slate roof, stone window heads and cills, two stories, with a new porch extension to the front.

‘The porch defines the entrance’.

The porch constructed from handmade bricks with stone window cills and lintels is detailed to reflect the low key Victorian design of the existing house. The porch provides a visual anchor defining the entrance aswell as improving the transition from outside to inside.
