Architectural Planning Services In Salisbury & Wiltshire

We have over twenty-one years’ experience in the design and construction industry, covering a broad spectrum of projects. Former works include domestic house extensions, commercial and healthcare projects, with a primary focus on the alteration and renovation of high quality residential buildings of all sizes.

Our work includes projects of all scales from smaller open plan kitchen extensions and internal re-designs, country cottage upgrading and alteration, renovation of town and city properties, conservation of listed buildings, near ‘Passivhaus’ replacement dwellings and low energy retrofit projects.

Renovation and alteration of historic, listed and architecturally important country houses for private clients have regularly featured.

Our studio offers design services direct to private clients, homeowners, property developers, rural estates and building contractors.

Our Approach To Architectural Design

Whilst we do not promote a particular style, we are guided by the aim of adapting, maintaining and enhancing traditional and vernacular architecture.

Our focus is on designing buildings that respond to and enhance the specific needs of our clients by carefully considering how they occupy and live within their homes. Good architecture serves several purposes, not only should it be attractive, priority is given to energy efficiency, practical functionality and the users end needs.

Our work emphasises historic forms and materials, and often adopts traditional massing in conjunction with modern construction methods to provide energy efficient, intriguing and thoughtful designs which sit respectfully within their setting.

Well versed in working with historic, traditional and listed buildings, we are equally at home producing modern designs in a contemporary manner.

We always respect the overriding character of a conservation area or the finer detail of a well-appointed historic building. The juxtaposition of two contrasting styles is often a more successful approach than attempting to mimic historic details with current building techniques and materials which sadly, often appear clumsy.

Change in the historic environment is inevitable, thanks to natural processes, the wear and tear of use and people’s responses to social, economic and technological changes. Conservation areas and protections are not intended to inhibit change, simply to manage it. Truly successful design embraces this.

Our Professional Team

James BA (Hons). Principal Partner

Having held senior positions in various practices across the south of England, my career has been largely focused in the higher tiers of the residential market.

Complementing my design work, I have significant personal experience in the acquisition and renovation of residential buildings and development of both green and brown field sites, which lends a grounded and practical perspective to my approach.

Whilst not at the drawing board I spend my free time skiing and cycling, tinkering with my home brewery, practicing yoga and wine tasting.

Henry BA (Hons). Consultant

Henry has a vast breadth of experience spanning various sectors of the design and construction industry. Former projects have included small scale intimate refurbishments of traditional cottages and new build houses for developers through to the renovation of large supermarket stores and new build shopping centres.

With a focus on the technical side of design, detailing and sustainability whilst always embracing new technologies.

A developer himself, he can often be found on site getting stuck in. Other interests include learning new languages (currently Mandarin), Badminton and Kite Surfing.

Lionel. Aspiring Assistant

We aren’t entirely sure if Lionel is a miniature Dachshund or a very noisy Jamaican Ginger Cake.

Either way, we can say for sure he is the most handsome small red creature there is...probably...

In addition to our core staff, we have established working relationships with a diverse group of complimentary consultants. Where their services are required we can arrange for Structural Engineers, SAP Consultants, Landscape Architects, Heritage Consultants, Ecologists, Interior Designers and many more. Of course, if you prefer to specify your own consultants, we are very happy to work alongside them.
